These are some of the examples I came up with...
Before I had cut any holes into the sheet I just draped it over the mannequin. My favorite of these designs above is the orange one. I really liked the way it hanged off the body. The shape was pointy and striking but still had some movement and flow. I then went onto cut arm holes and this was my final out come.
At the moment it looks quite like an angels dress or something you would find in a hospital but my plan is to cover it in patchwork and have a leaf collar. I had some left over material so I decided to tuck it in the back.
After doing all of this I finally came up with my final piece idea this is what it looked like...
I decided to dye the dress green. I used a dye that I could put in the washing machine. I put it on a rinse cycle and let the fabric do the work. I was really impressed with how all over the colour was I thought it might have been patchy but it wasn't. Each Patch at the bottom of the dress is different I used techniques such as Melting things imbetween plastic, appliqué, reverse appliqué, batik, painting onto fabric and different dye techniques. Due to time I only have 3 leaves on the top of my dress this is because it was the last thing i did as i didn't want them to rot and fall off before hand in and as it is quite fiddly i decided against this. Instead to add some detail I added beads to the top to hold it together and to make it look more attractive and not waste the space.
I really like how my dress came out I love that each patch is different. I also really like the shape of the dress how it falls on the body. It kind of drapes and hangs and has a similarity to a leaf shape.
